Web development

What is web development?

Some of the tools and platforms used in online education are based on the code languages that make web pages. For example, tools such as Apitterire Evolve or Articulate Storyline create mobile-friendly web pages that run on HTML5. Learning Management Systems can also feature options to edit your own HTML. It’s possible to create your own online learning content using none of the tools created for the industry, and instead use free web development tools instead.

To get started in web development, you will need to understand how the following coding languages work together to create a web page:

  • HTML – creates the structure of a web page with header, paragraph and image tags, as well as basic interactions such as links.
  • CSS – sets how the elements of a web page will look (such as fonts, colours and background images), and can create animations.
  • JavaScript – can add interactive elements to your webpages.
